So we were set a challenge by a PR company, get twin boy to relax long enough to sit still to read a book and then get him and his sister to give me their opinion!
Twin boy loves a good yarn but authors beware if the story doesn’t catch his eye or engage him immediately he wanders off in search of the beloved Gruffalo and you can always tell how much twin girl enjoys the book by the amount of questions she asks. No questions equals poor story lots of questions equals great read.
Anyway as usual I digress…
We were sent The Adventures of Penny the Postie to review. It was written by a talented chappie called Keith Robinson who is also responsible for all the fab art work that displays Penny’s adventures through the post box and into pirate land.
Twin girl was immediately gripped by the central character being a girl even though the book tells of her exploits with pirates so for once the book suited both my children’s tastes. Twin girl hit me with some belters: ‘Why do pirates say arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh?’; ‘where is the parrot?’ and ‘does Penny have a boyfriend?’. The book answers some questions but I think we may need to read more of Penny’s exploits to be able to satisfy all of twin girls questions.
We knew the book was a hit when twin boy remained transfixed to the story and when it finished he grabbed his own scabbard and began re enacting the story. Twin girl contented herself at the end of the story by playing with the stamps that come free with the book which make it an outstandingly reasonable purchase.
So it was a massive thumbs up from us, and a recommendation to go out and have a read of Penny’s adventures. You can buy the book for just four pounds ninety-five english pence by clicking here.
Or you can play the game of luck as I will be giving away two copies of The Adventures of Penny the Postie on Halloween. In order to be in with a chance of winning please leave a comment below and retweet this post. All names with be entered into a hat (a pink baseball cap to be precise) and twin boy and girl will each select a winner.
Remember you have to be in it to win it!
