Ma, Did you hear me? ~ Northernmum

After a pretty abysmal week  with BB today burst into being with a bit of better news.  Eager to share my good fortune I hurried home from the office and bounded into the house.

The sight that greeted me was beautiful, my dear saint of a mother down on hands and knees scrubbing my poor neglected floor.

Immediately I was faced with a dilemma, should I share my news and run the risk of distracting her or should I wait until she had finished giving the house a once over.

Unable to hold my own water I decided to tell her..

“Mum, you don’t need to get up,” I began; “but remember that blog award I won last year? I have been short-listed again; in four different categories.”

I stood holding my breath, waiting for her reaction.  I hoped she wouldn’t cry with joy as the tears could ruin her good work on the floor.  Similarly; as much as I love a glass of the fizzy stuff, I prayed she wouldn’t insist on dropping everything to leg it to the local off licence to buy a bottle of their best Cava because she looked like she was on a roll and the freezer desperately needs de frosting.  No one can make my house shine like my wonderful mum.

She continued to scrub.

After a rather awkward silence had passed, I questioned “ma, did you hear me?”

Her head jerked up.

“Oh yes, well done.  Now stop eating that jaffa cake you will never shift that weight.”

Did you hear the bump?

That would be me and my arse crashing back to earth with a bang!

I am immensely flattered to have been short-listed and I need you to vote one last time if you would like Northernmum to win one of the Blog Awards.

It takes two minutes to complete.

Click this link to go to the voting form.

Fill in your name and choose your winners from the drop down box.  I am short-listed in:

  1. Looks up from wiping breakfast things off the table 😉 joking!!! x

Fantastic news, totally deserved and of course I will be popping by to vote.
This week is ending up much better in the end, few more crumbs to wipe up do you mind!!! 🙂 xxx

  2. I love it (the fact you didn’t want to interrupt the cleaning)! My mother has a similar contempt for the internet. Yesterday I couldn’t wait to tell her I was a BiBs finalist. ‘Ooooh,’ she said with promising excitement. ‘I meant to say, I saw the farmer whose cows ran over our garden today and, goodness, he is so dishy. I’ve told him he can let his cos loose on me any time.’

  3. oh, I know that feeling – not that my mum would ever wash my floors for me but she views what I do as ‘computer stuff’. I’m in in the finals of the Social Media Awards this year and I’m organising the Irish Blog Awards and it’s like I’ve got 8 out of 10 in a spelling test 😉

Best of luck and whatever happens, have a great time at the awards

  4. *passses a packet of Jaffa cakes* your relationship with your
Mother brought tears to my eyes. So sad. You’ve got my vote of course. But could you write something funny?

  5. Congratulations, wonderful to be in 4 categories! I love that you didn’t want to interrupt her cleaning!! I’s the same here, none of my family or friends get my interest in social media at all.
Best of luck with the MAD awards 🙂

    xx Jazzy
