The end of the Summer

The holidays seem to have finished and I feel both elated and saddened.  Six weeks has flown by and we have enjoyed a multitude of days out, a couple of hospital stays and a fabulous holiday in one of my favourite spots in Cornwall.

The new term has already captured my children and it feels like we are already knee-deep in reading, Brownies, dance and football classes.

As manic as the summer was, term time always seems intense.

The highlights of the summer include a beautiful day on the Southbank following an evening spent sleeping exceptionally well at the Premier Inn at the Tate Modern.  We are ambassadors for the Premier Inn, and it is always a pleasure to stay in the superbly maintained hotels that have great locations from which to explore.

What was meant to be a short walk along the Thames turned into a delightful day watching street performers, playing in Beano Town, and visiting an African village.  Plus, we took our (for once) exceptionally behaved into two art galleries and we all enjoyed a rare bit of culture.

Days that surprise you are always the best of times.

Interestingly enough, everything we experienced was completely free.

So where else did we spend the summer?

We rode the big rides at Thorpe Park and sampled the magic at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour: The Making of Harry Potter.  We traveled to Cornwall and camped in a field with university friends.  Huddled around a BBQ fire with rain tickling our heads we laughed, caught up and made future plans to not leave it so long again.

We traveled to the green grass of South Kensington and spent the day with the team from Battlebox, building dens in the shade and learning survival techniques.

We caught up with Mr Tumble at Lollibop, and twin girl got to practise dance routines with the kid sensation that is Pre-Skool.  No child had a wider grin than my daughter when she was invited on stage by the Britain’s got Talents finalists and for a few short minutes she was one of them.

Back in Cornwall, we stayed at the stunning Trevella Park and relaxed whilst playing.  We spent days out at Flambards mixing Victorian villages with carousel rides.  We hit the beach when the sun shone and played football when the rain fell.

One of us was terrified at Bodmin Jail, and the little ones adored both Crealy’s Great Adventure Park and Holywell Bay Fun Park.

Summer 2013 : one to remember for lots of great reasons.

  1. Still harbouring a grudge that Coombe Mill isn’t on your Cornish days but that aside 10 out of 10 for an action packed summer of activities for your family. Firmly tick that off as the great summer of 2013!

  2. Except that you made it onto my best summer collage and do I get a mention in return… ‘it was really nice to see Gemma at Britmums, it made my summer something special’ that sort of thing.
