damp with a sore bottom

I spent the vast majority of this weekend damp with a slightly sore bottom. I have looked like Casper the Ghost since Friday, my make up bag has been gathering dust and my ghd’s are stone cold. The children are officially   and he who helped create them is looking a bit worn out.

We have been to centre parks accompanied by Mrsmummyslife and her lovely brood, plus five other friends.

We all met at college and spent our youth swimming in tequila and now we spend our thirties drowning in wave pools and curbing the alcohol consumption at ten in favor of watching a bit of TV and then early to bed – so we get the best of the next day (or so we can cope when our children wake in the night or early in the morning – just out of spite!). Don’t get me wrong we had a fabulous time but we definitely lack our old party spirit; a fact proven when one of the chaps, a seasoned clubber in his day known for staying out till dawn decided to wrap himself up in a slanket at 9pm on Saturday night. The ladies gave up any attempt at hair and makeup and instead went for the natural look – wise move when you are spending a good four hours of everyday submerged in water.

Twin boy and girl were exceptionally well behaved. Twin boy’s best moment being his erratic diving in the waves and exposing a bare little backside every time he lost his shorts. Twin girl found several new friends in the varying soft play areas and made us proud by showing off her exemplary swimming skills and beautiful baby wooed everyone by living up to her name.

There was a subtle difference between the married with kids amongst us and the unmarried without kids. The unmarried took opportunities to sneak off occasionally for kisses and cuddles and the married amongst us just took the opportunity to sneak off from each other and the kids whenever we could.

As organiser of the trip I arranged for the ladies to trundle off for a Sunday morning spa. Myself and Mrsmummyslife  managed a few steam rooms before giving up and nestling down for a nap on a sun lounger. Essentially we paid forty pounds for guaranteed non child interrupted sleep, it was worth every penny. The weekend completed with yet more time in the waves but the highlight was when all the grownups except slanket man (aka one armed bandit – currently suffering from a broken collarbone so babysat all the kids!) hit the flumes and the rapids. Picture several thirty something’s hurling themselves down waterfalls with no regard for any young children in the way and you have our Saturday night.

Cracking weekend!

  1. We went to Center Parcs with out little one this spring and absolutely loved it. That was just the three of us though and we had a really chilled out time. I can’t imagine what it would be like with lots of friends and their children!

  2. Sounds like a fab weekend. We went when Lyra was 7 months and she went down with a horrible lurgy. The friends we were holidaying with are having a baby today so were pretty preggers at the time. All in all not a winning combo. We did have fun though and can’t wait to go back.
