Today was stressful.
No, lets strike that, today was intensely stressful.
Twin boy, twin girl and I went cupcake making, prior to today the only cakes we have made together were chocolate crispies and that is only because I learnt how at guides before I was asked to leave permanently following an unfortunate incident.
I have also never made cupakes before, in fact every cake recipe I have ever made has ended in disaster.
But since the kind folks over at bakingmad asked me to review their site and write a post about it I thought it was worth a go and I could have some quality mother/daughter/son time….
It didn’t go well, despite the recipes being easy to follow I manage to completely balls up the ingredients so our first choice of cupcakes had to be abandoned and replaced with a simpler version, in hindsight was probably a godsend. Twin boy dropped the flour on the floor making the kitchen resemble a ski slope at the end of season and at first I managed to underbake the cakes so a fresh batch had to be prepared.
However look what we finally produced…….
My first cupcakes, with a spot of help from twin boy and girl., a little room for improvement but hey ho…
Click here to have a go at some cracking cupcake recipes the site is easy to use and even has handy cooking tips which is great for complete idiots novices like me. Also click the link to make a lovely Victoria Sponge that my mum managed to knock up in moments after I led her to the site.

aw, they do look cute and homemade! I love baking but was once accused of cheating as my cakes didn’t look like they should apparently, I was accused of buying them in a bakery!
I could never be accused of that! X
I love to bake, but more often than not I end up with something that looks nothing like the picture in the recipe book… But, yours look like cupcakes – result!
Trust me it is a flattering picture…
They actually do look really yummy, I love cupcakes that look so ‘natural’! I love baking and let my son help but it’s so much easier to do it on your own! x
To be fair my kids were better at It than me…
They don’t look too bad, although it looks like ratio between sugary stuff and cake is about 50:50, and I personally prefer a bit more cake in my cake… Well done for making the step up from chocolate crispies, anyway…
James! My cakes are to die for
well done with the cake making…are you looking for votes for the MADS best food blog now!
x
Hehehe!!!!
Your cakes look fab. I love baking and have produced two excellent cake bakers in my children. But it has been tough. It’s hard baking with little ones but with regular practice they get really good at it. My daughter is 6yrs old and can make a batch of cupcakes all on her own 🙂
Hope yours tasted as good as they look x
hmmm they are a little sugary!
After a very stressful experience making crispie cakes at Easter with Cora I have vowed to only make cakes for which the batter is inedible prior to cooking. Your cupcakes look very yummy! x
they dont even compare to my roast!
Well done Jane cooking with small people always ends in disaster too. Although I can’t believe your mum didn’t pass on her fab baking skills to you x best scones I’ve ever tasted x
She was here when I did them – apprantly she doesnt do cupcakes!!!!
Your cakes do look fab, I bet they taste great too, especially while relaxing with a cup of tea!

Your cakes look delicious (honest).
Aww I love you
well done, goodness me there’ll be glue, glitter and paint next! How to playdough in a spica?
Seriously though, baking gets easier the more you do it.
And I seriously fancy Eric Lanlard which is why I am entering.
really? I dont see it
xxxx
what a brave attempt, and give your self a pat on the back for taking up the challenge. practise makes perfect, though they dont look to bad. My grandkids like to stick on more topping than cake as well.
They do look fab!! It’s great that you are encouraging your twins to cook with you..
first time in six years!
They look like they were made with love 🙂
and a bit of yelling mixed in!
My cupcakes usually turn out ultra wonky and look like a 5 year old made them! Yours actually look really good!
The camera lies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are fab. Bet they had loads of fun making those.
They did, I didnt! x
The great thing about cooking with kids is that you can blame them if they look a mess 😉
are you hinting?
I agree that cooking with kids can be a nightmare! Mine prefer the taste testing to the cookIng! Your cupcakes look yummy x
thanks
Thanks!
those cakes look awful.

does saying cakes look awful mean I am disqualified? damn.
you are out!
the mix looks great to lick out bowl ..
thats the best you can do lady?

I’d still scoff them though!!!
x
They were sickenly sugary!
