I have a secret, it is a bit of a guilty one.
I try and hide it but unless I avoid all radio, tv and shopping malls it is pretty impossible.
So I am going to share it….
When One Direction’s songs start to play I just want to boogie. A strange sensation comes over me and I lose all control over my body and I just start busting out some moves. Problem is I dance like my Dad; and my dad ain’t known for his disco steps.
I dont let this stop me.
Take today, I was cruising along the residential area, two six year old girls (one mine, one a friend) and BB were safely strapped in the back and suddenly the all familiar cords began to pulse through Heart FM. I forgot myself; for a moment I wasnt a mother to three who was performing weekend chauffeur duties, I wasnt driving a car that still has a tape deck. Instead I was twenty three, driving a soft top along the sea front, I was a size eight and feck it I was living while I was young.
As I tossed my arms around the car pumping my fists to the beat I ignored the mortified expression from my daughter, as I crooned out the lyrics in perfect harmony I didnt even notice that BB had buried her ears behind her hands but when my daughters friend cried out mid chorus ‘Mrs Blackmore, Mrs Blackmore’ I felt I had to pay attention so turning down the boys just slightly I answered ‘yes?’
‘Do you remember being young?’
My thirty five year old size sixteen arse fell onto my hard top car’s seat with a thump.
I switched to Radio Four.
Gr8 post – particularly like the size sixteen arse bit – as I have one of those, but its a tad older than yours…
I have been contemplated confessing on my blog a guilty secret of mine concerning my musical tastes…this post made me chuckle so perhaps I should confess away..not sure I am ready yet though 😉
Boyzone?
Oh yes – this is the ridiculous effect one direction have on me too – pleased I’m not alone! xx
Kids say the funniest things…Not! But we have a duty to embarrass the hell out of them so keep up the good work 😉
Ha ha ha ha – you can always rely on kids to tell it like it is!
Love it! I had a similar situation, was stopped at lights & clearly forgot everyone could see me as I dance and sing at top of voice until Young guys in white van catch my eye & they are raucously laughing & pointing. Felt like I was 18 again. Ah well!
Tango music has the same ‘must move’ effect on me!
I found myself in a similar position this week: we bought Pop Jr (basically Now That’s What I Call Music for the under-5s) and I found myself turning it up extra loud at all the ‘good ones’ (One Direction, Justin Bieber etc) whilst DH sat in disapproving silence.
LOL!!!!
One Direction produce tunes that are ridiculously catchy. I love them. My two year old loves them. My husband… doesn’t. If you want someone to dance with you know where I am!
I love car dancing with JDaniel! I am glad I am not the only one.
I sometimes like to pretend I am in the music video for the song… but Zachy covers his ears now and says ‘NO SING MUMMY’ and the bubble is burst 🙂
Are you that bad?
Almost found myself in the saddle today when gangnam style came on the radio in soft play #need to rein myself in x
The images….
You bop away lady, you are as young as you feel and can act it too despite what the kiddies might say! Or that’s my motto and I’m sticking to it!
Ouch!
But car dancing is cool, no?
