sleeping on the ward, the end of a long day

It’s the close to a long day, I am wrapped up in my jim jams and beautiful baby is a fingertip away in her hospital cot. She has managed to get over the excitement of being in a dormitory and is softly sleeping. I on the other hand am rather distracted by the impressive sauna like temperature of the ward and find myself thinking murderous thoughts towards the V tech toy the baby to the left of me is beating whilst it incessantly sings away.

Bb is fine, she has had a day attached to her favourite thing (read boob) and shows no signs of her earlier distress. We are staying here for the night just to make sure all stays well, but if it does we are free to leave at midday tomorrow. On a side note we do have to see the paediatrician again in a couple of months for a check up and because bb doesn’t sit up yet at almost eight months. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Now I am back in the real world, my heart has stopped racing and my paranoia is subsiding and I can scratch a tiny amount of humour from this morning events. My theory being if you don’t laugh you can only cry.

My world stopped spinning as bb started to fit but as she slowly struggled back into her skin we all waited terrified for the paramedics to arrive. The poor woman on the other end of the emergency call continued to try to calm me down, despite the string of foul words I had uttered when she told me my call was on hold as I begged for an ambulance.

She asked me gently to unlock the door so the paramedic could get in and then asked me to remove all pets from the vicinity. I compensated for the fish by covering him under a tea towel and praying he would be quiet and not show me up. The rapid rescue hound refused to be hidden so easily.  So I attached my rather nervous mutt to her long lead and tied her round the tree in the garden and then returned into the house to help he who helped create them soothe bb gently back to us.

Seconds passed and a sudden crash and yelp came from the garden; swearing once more at the lovely 999 lady I looked through the window and saw the sodding dog had leapt over the neighbours fence and was currently dangling in mid air slowly bloody strangling herself.

At this time twin boy took it upon himself to remind me no one had given him his milk yet.

The dog is fine by the way.

Twin boy had his milk.

I need my gin, my nerves are shot to hell.

Thank you all for your beautiful comments, texts and facebook messages, you kept us going all day and it really has been a long one.

Sleep well and cuddle those little ones tightly.

  1. That z bed looked really comfortable and maybe the sauna will make up for the lack of marathon training today…… rabid dog is feeling sorry for herself under the table. All knives and medicines have been hidden away just incase she tries to take her own life again!

  2. Glad baby beautiful seems to be OK.

Nights on the childrens ward are always hot and noisy, hope you manage to get some sleep. If BB cries, try telling a nurse that you are worried she will disturb others & see if they have a side room spare! Seen that happen before.

hope you are home tomorrow x

ps My niece was born in April & its only been in the last few weeks she has started to sit unaided.

  3. Hope you manage at least a bit of sleep and resist the urge to murder the VTech toy before sun-up 😉

Tori sends BB AND mad mutt a cuddle each – she is equally fond of bay-beeeeees and wuffwuffs and hopes they are both feeling better very soon.

    Thinking of you
    xxCxx

  4. What a worrying day! Hope you manage to get some sleep. Your post did make me laugh though – the fish and the dog. Hope your little one is well and you are able to go home tomorrow x

  5. Aw, bless. Poor stupid mutt.

Hope you will get home today.

My DD did not sit up until she was over a year – she stood before she sat. Which is not really a good thing, because she could not plump herself back down onto her bum, so when she got tired she would topple over like a tree falling.

Don’t worry about that, eight months is not to lake to be sitting up.

  6. I had no idea this had happened, you poor thing, terrifying for you, glad BB is on the better side, hope you get some explanation as to why it happened, thinking of you & sending love your way xxxx

  7. That must have been terrifying. we spent quite a bit of time in the baby ward in the early months with the twins, but not anything as dramatic as that. Glad she seems OK.

At 8 months our girl was sitting up, crawling & pulling herslef to a standing position, The boy was still wriggling on his belly & smiling sweetly. Then just before Xmas he decided to get a move on & is now even more mobile than his sister. Nothing to worry about – babies develop at different rates & in different ways, even twins.
