This morning I awoke to feel fear penetrating my heart in two ways. The first way was via an instant memory that today is the day of the Teddies Bear Picnic and the second impact of terror was the uncomfortable silence that was echoing through my normally excessively loud home.
You may think a Teddies bear picnic sounds harmless; but this is merely another name for a children’s party. One of the key advantages of having twins is joint parties and you can get away with only one party per year. However in one moment of pure insanity earlier this year I decided to boost my fundraising efforts by hosting a children’s party for forty, five year olds; and holy shit its drop off! I honestly felt less trepidation two weeks ago when I stood at the start line of the London marathon.
So last night I planned on getting organised but was ambushed by a bottle of Rose and fish and chips. When I finally tore myself free at half ten I was too pickled and full to even contemplate making jam sarnies to feed a gazillion kids so instead I took refuge in my pillow and hid under my blanket.
At 6.50am this morning twin boy trotted into my room arranged his mouth approximate five centimetres from my ear and bellowed “is it waking up time?”. Pleading for ten more minutes I may have murmured that when they both got up they could assist with butty making and contended with this my big kids pottered back to their bedroom.
…or so I thought
Thirty minutes later I sat bolt up right; the silence from BB’s room was to be expected as she and her teddies had a milk fest for about an hour at two am so she was sleeping it off. However twin boy and girl had no such excuse and their silence was deafening.
You would understand my fear if I were to explain that twin boy had a period of silence earlier in the week which resulted in us finding his hair in the sink with he who helped create them’s clippers buzzing on the side. A second prolonged silence led to the discovery of their names and height being recorded on their bedroom wall in permament ink. Silence is this house means mischeif, no two ways about it.
So what did this silence lead to?
Don’t need to worry about butty making then!
Pray for me this afternoon……
Umm good intentions 🙂 have a fab picnic and hope you raise lots more money.
Thanks. I just hope we survive the party
Very resourceful! Masterchef in the making!
Hmmmmmm,
eight were saved!
oh my! I always worry about the silences too, much worse than the noise!
Have a great party……and I was wondering if your washing machine too sounds like a tractor or is it just my ‘shh super silent’ model that does??!

Hmm I remember that, I always used to say if the boys went quiet then something was very wrong

Oh my goodness, silence is so scary! Fingers crossed everything went ok with the teddy bears picnic! At least you know you could start a family catering business if all else fails lol 😀
Hmmm, my jam sandwiches were a failure!
