I Have A Huge Head…(pictures included)

I have no love for children’s parties, especially ones that I am in charge of.  Hence why it was a bit of a result when I realised that by having twins I have cleverly managed to avoid having separate parties for my eldest pair.  I am sure the day will come when my girl and boy are no longer satisfied with sharing their birthday fun but for now the fact that I only have to host one party for two children gets me through the birthday blues…

So why, why, why, did I think it would be a good idea to host a charity children’s party to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Charity?

The idea came to me whilst out on a run training for the marathon which again was not one of my brightest moves; but I thought it would be great for the kids to have a party (they had been particularly good that day) and to raise money to supplement my marathon fundraising.  All I needed was a hall and a nice person to tame the animals entertain the kids.

To be honest I didn’t think I would be able to find an madman kids entertainer willing to turn up and entertain the munchkins for a fraction of their normal price but within seconds my faith in humanity was restored when Terry aka Jester Giggles answered my email enquiry within the hour and said he would do the full party for free so all the funds raised could go to charity.  In a world as horrid as ours can be at times to find someone who just says ‘yes’ so quickly to a good cause is rare and lovely to encounter.

So the marathon came and went; I think I may have written about it at the time…

The the fear of the party kicked in, forty pairs of feet all left in my care for two hours for Jester Giggles to entertain.

They arrived, Twin boy acted as doorman refusing entry until an appropriate donation had been made and then we locked the doors so they couldnt escape we didn’t inadvertently lose anyone and the party started.

This is what they thought….

Twin Boy: “I loved my party mummy, Jester Giggles is awesome.”

Twin Girl: “Mummy my eyes nearly popped when Jester Giggles blew up your head.”

Small girl with blonde hair and jam smeared on cheek: “Your party was great, the man wasnt scary he was funny.”

Small boy bouncing off walls after eating one too many party rings: “Arghhhh great party, he washed my socks!”

To be clear Jester Giggles hasnt asked me to review him but this is my way of saying thanks for such an excellent day.  In comparison to the twins birthday party I found the whole affair really relaxed and Terry took care of everything; so much so that I didn’t  feel the need to drink excessively to make it through the party.  Which is good as nothing screams bad mum more than a pissed mum hosting the children’s party.

Anyway check out the pictures to see how much fun we really had.

And once more a huge thanks to Terry aka Jester Giggles; we raised £250 that day and the total raised for Anthony Nolan now stands at £2756.

Thanks to everyone who sponsored me for that little run….

  1. I reckon you’re secretly disappointed it didn’t go horrifically wrong so you could get multiple blog posts out of it..,

I only had one party as a kid. One girl left in an ambulance. I was too scared to have another one.

    (well done on your fundraising!)

  2. I only have one child and even with that I was relieved when the little kids parties started to fade into memory. I never thought to use them as fund raising events, that’s inspired!

I do recall that most mums had a glass of wine on hand when hosting parties… Might help. 😉
